Frequently asked questions
Are these webcams really live?
Yes. Every camera streams in real time from its owner — usually a hotel, beach club, dive shop or local broadcaster. We check each feed regularly and mark cams that look offline. Some cameras only run during daylight hours.
Can I check for sargassum with these cams?
Beach-facing cams are the quickest way to see whether sargassum seaweed has reached a particular beach today. Look for cams tagged “Sargassum”, and compare beaches on the Caribbean side with the more sheltered west side of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.
Where does the weather data come from?
Current conditions, forecasts and sea data come from Open-Meteo. Tropical storm and hurricane information comes from the US National Hurricane Center. Always follow official guidance from Mexico’s Protección Civil during storms.
What time is it in Cancún and the Riviera Maya?
Quintana Roo uses Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5) all year and does not change clocks for daylight saving.
